📊 Review

Now I’m sharing my personal experience after playing The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. It is the remake of the classic 1993 Game Boy game. It retains the essence of the original while incorporating a modern style. Due to its smoother gameplay, I enjoyed every bit of it.

Story and Characters

My experience began with Link caught in a storm at sea. His ship was destroyed, and he washed up on a mysterious island called Koholint. I woke up in the home of Marin, who is a kind girl. His father, “Tarin,” is funny and clumsy. Soon after, a wise person told me something important. The only way to leave this island was to wake the Wind Fish. It is a magical creature sleeping inside a giant egg on a mountain top.

To accomplish this, I had to collect eight magical instruments hidden in dangerous dungeons. These instruments would play a melody to awaken the Wind Fish. The journey was full of strange and funny moments, with characters unlike any other Zelda game. There was no Princess Zelda or Ganon here, just a new world with its mysteries.

Here are some characters discussed below:

  • Link: The main hero I played, determined to escape the island.
  • Marin: A sweet and curious girl who loves singing.
  • Tarin: Marin’s father, clumsy and lighthearted.
  • The Wise Owl: Guided me on my quest.
  • Koholint’s Residents: A mix of odd and lovable characters, including cameos from Mario enemies like Goombas and Chain Chomps.
Gameplay and Visuals

My favorite activities include exploring, solving puzzles, and finding items. Each dungeon had locked doors, keys, mini-bosses, and a big boss at the end. I often got a new tool inside a dungeon, like:

  • Roc’s Feather: Let me jump.
  • Pegasus Boots made me dash fast.
  • Bombs, Bow, and Hookshot helped in puzzles and combat.

The combat felt satisfying but straightforward, with the shield now mapped to a trigger button for better control. The map was full of secrets, hidden caves, and treasure chests. I spent some time fishing and playing mini-games. I also did a few trading side quests. There was even a mode to build my dungeon by arranging ready-made rooms.

It wasn’t as big as Mario Maker, but still fun to try. The Switch version looked like a tiny toy world, with bright colors and a tilt-shift camera effect that made everything feel like a handcrafted diorama. The remake kept the charm of the original but filled in the details our imaginations once supplied.

The soundtrack was re-recorded entirely with orchestral instruments. It kept the familiar tunes but made them richer and more emotional, and I often found myself just listening for a while.

The game ran well in both handheld and docked modes, though I did notice small frame drops in busy areas. It wasn’t game-breaking, but I could tell when it happened.
